Bill Thompson’s Eye On Books
Chris Launois “L’Americain”
Length: 15m 46s

Before television, America’s great photo magazines captured world events for millions of readers. The magazines sent correspondents and photojournalists to the ends of the earth to record history in the making. Among this elite was the photographer John Launois. In the ’60s and ’70s, Launois blossomed as one of the most resourceful, inventive, prolific, and widely traveled photojournalists. Launois died, however, before he was able to finish his memoir. His son Chris Launois, his writing partner, has finished it. It’s a stunning work of words and, of course, photos, called “L’Americain.”
